Do you ever feel like an impostor?
Do you ever feel like you are way in over you head? Do you wonder “Why in the world would anyone buy from my company?”
The reality is that most people in the world have what Seth Godin refers to as the Impostor Syndrome.
We look in the mirror and we feel like there is no way we should be doing what we are doing. We feel like we are inadequate!
Do you feel this way? Does this sounds familiar?
So how can we conquer this fear?
Over the years of doing business and coaching others in business, I have seen 3 ways that people have overcome this fear. If you follow these simple ideas, I believe you will conquer the fear of being an impostor.
#1 – Do all you can do to become an expert
If you feel like you are an impostor in your business, I would encourage you to focus on becoming an expert in your field. You may have little experience! You may feel like you really know nothing about business. Start today to take steps of becoming an expert in your field.
Here are a few practical ways that you can start your journey at becoming an expert.
#2 – Start to execute like a professional
Another simple way that you can break through these fears in your life is to execute like a professional. The reality is that most of us know things that we could do better in our business or ministry life. I would challenge you to take 15 minutes to make a list of the 5 key things that would impact your life or business the most. Your list may include:
Once you have your list of 5 (or more) items, plan a time when you are going to do each of those things. If you don’t plan them, they won’t get done. Once you have written them down, ask someone that you trust to hold you accountable for accomplishing these 5 key tasks.
We have seen that without accountability, people quickly slip back into bad habits.
As you begin to execute like a professional, you will begin to gain confidence and see results that impact your business or life.
#3 – Understand where you true value comes from
The final tip, and most important, is to fully grasp where your true value comes from.
No matter what other people think about you, you are loved and valued by God. Even if your business is failing or your ministry seems slow, you are loved by God.
There is nothing that you can do that will increase His love for you.
Take 10 minutes to just marvel in the love of the Father.
